Movie recommendation: Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Join us in Episode five as we delve into the realities of Indigenous injustice within Saskatchewan, exploring three cases that highlight systemic racism and neglect within the justice system: first, we do an in-depth exploration of the Starlight tours, specifically looking into the death of Neil Stonechild, who was left outside in freezing temperatures after being taken into police custody; secondly, we do an overview of the Colten Boushie case, which was treated more as a property crime than a murder; and last, we briefly look into the recent case of nine-year old Baeleigh Maurice, who was struck and killed by a truck driver whose charges were dismissed due to judicial "inefficiencies". As we explore these injustices, we hope to bring attention to the broader context of Indigenous rights, the impact of historical trauma, and the urgent need for accountability and change. This episode serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by Indigenous communities and calls for solidarity, awareness, and action to confront these deeply rooted issues. Join us for a conversation meant to honor the lives affected and to inspire meaningful dialogue in our communities. Please take care of yourself while listening. We invite you to take a moment after listening to say a prayer (or whatever you practice) to the victims and families affected by this systematic violence.
